Goal of Program: 
CKSC is a parish-centered year of service created by and for our Detroit neighborhood, instilling hope and creating a brighter future for our city and its residents. Our parish and neighborhood focus is unique among service corps, and gives you the perfect stage for a place-based year where you are not just a member of your intentional community, but of a diverse parish community as well. You become an "ambassador" for Detroit, as you experience the richness of the city at an unprecedented time in its history. As a smaller program, our community has unparalleled resources to give the personal touch to your year of service.
Type of Placement: 
Facilitating nutrition, local farming, and food entrepreneurship in one of Detroit's largest food deserts; teaching in one of the city's four remaining Catholic elementary schools; community organizing with faith-based groups; social work with seniors and at-risk youth; community outreach; soup kitchen direct service; homeless youth ministry; asset building; and more! The needs of our community our many and are constantly evolving.
Service Area: 
Detroit, Michigan.
Service Length: 
One-year terms run mid-August through the end of July. Renewable for up to three years.
Requirements: 
Must be at least 21 years of age and a college graduate (or equivalent professional experience or training).
Financial Arrangement: 
Stipend, health insurance, access to community car, room and board, internet, help deferring student loans. Upon completion of the service year, volunteers receive a $1,500 education stipend.
Living Arrangements: 
Volunteers will live in community supporting each other, having fun, cultivating faith, cooking meals, and performing chores in a house next to Christ the King Catholic Church which is walking distance to several grocery stores, a public library, a historic (and affordable!) movie theater, and other great amenities. Opportunities for faith sharing and spiritual growth will be available both within the CKSC community and Christ the King Parish.
Program Size: 
6-11 volunteers.
Training: 
One to two weeks of job-specific training in August. Volunteer support and mentoring throughout the year. Orientation to surrounding community. Spiritual development opportunities. Fall and Spring Retreats.

Cody Rouge Resource Center Assistant Program Manager

We are currently seeking individuals to serve as Assistant Managers at the new Resource Center at St. Suzanne-Our Lady Gate of Heaven Catholic Parish in the areas of Family and Youth Engagement and Social Enterprise. Previously known as Don Bosco Hall, the Resource Center at St. Suzanne's - Our Lady Gate of Heaven Catholic Parish provides a non-profit hub for those in need to access services ranging from financial literacy to job training. The Assistant Program Manager will develop and implement social enterprise project plans, oversee business build-out, recruit resident-produced goods and service and prospective employees for production, and identify unique opportunities to synergize production with neighborhood needs. This position is great for someone who is interested in urban economic development, flexible, decisive, and a people person.

Cody Rouge Resource Center Assistant Manager

We are currently seeking individuals to serve as Assistant Managers at the new Resource Center at St. Suzanne-Our Lady Gate of Heaven Catholic Parish in the areas of Family and Youth Engagement and Social Enterprise. Previously known as Don Bosco Hall, the Resource Center at St. Suzanne's - Our Lady Gate of Heaven Catholic Parish provides a non-profit hub for those in need to access services ranging from financial literacy to job training. The Assistant Center Manager will engage youth, families, and residents to discern needs and available services, manage new shared work space members, and assist in the development and coordination of new programs. This position is great for someone who is Interested in community service with a high collective impact, flexible, creative, and passionate about serving the poor.

Community Organizer - Water Equity

We are currently seeking individuals to serve as community organizers with MOSES in the areas of Education Equity and Water Equity. In this role, the Water Equity Community Organizer will conduct one on ones with clergy, members of congregations, and MOSES partner organizations; collect community members' stories for the water equity campaign; conduct trainings with MOSES leaders on the water equity issue and support the water equity coalition campaign; lend support identifying long term solutions to the water equity issue; and host public meetings on water equity with public officials. This position is great for someone who is a grassroots activist and passionate about natural resource rights and municipal governance.

We are currently seeking individuals to serve as community organizers with MOSES in the areas of Education Equity and Water Equity. In this role, the Education Equity Community Organizer will conduct one on ones with clergy, members of congregations and MOSES partner organizations and collect community members' stories for an education campaign; conduct trainings with MOSES leaders on education; and host public meetings on education equity with public officials. This position is great for someone who is a grassroots activist, highly adaptable, passionate about meeting youth and education issues.

K-8 Athletics/Activities Director

The Christ the King Service Corps is a faith-based community of volunteers living and working in Detroit, Michigan. Volunteers commit to one or more years of service, and are provided housing, food allowance, medical insurance and use of a community car. Volunteers are also supported by the progressive, vibrant, and inclusive community of Christ the King Parish in Northwest Detroit. We are currently seeking an individual to serve as the Athletics and After-School Activities Director for Christ the King Catholic School. Responsibilities for this position include managing the sports program, recruiting coaches, and recruiting volunteers for after school enrichment programs. This position is great for someone who is passionate about working with kids, well-organized, flexible, and a self-starter. Bachelors degree or previous experience required.
