Magis Catholic Teacher Corps
Goal of Program
Magis Catholic Teacher Corps is a service-based graduate program centered on teaching, graduate coursework, community living, and Ignatian spirituality. With the hope of developing effective leaders and teachers in the Ignatian tradition for Midwest Catholic schools, Magis recruits college graduates who view education as their vocation and their ministry.
Type of Placement
Catholic schools across the Midwest (PK-12 grades, most subjects) and Arizona. Schools located in urban, surburban and rural settings, as well as on American Indian reservations.
Service Area
Nebraska, South Dakota, Iowa, Kansas, Wisconsin, Missouri, Arizona
Service Length
Two Years
Program Size
25-35 in two cohorts (first year teachers and second year teachers)
Requirements
Members must have a Bachelor's degree and be accepted into the Graduate School and to Magis Catholic Teacher Corps. Must be willing to live in faith-based community in which members are open to sharing teaching experiences with one another. Must also enjoy working with youth and view teaching as a vocation and ministry in life.
Financial Arrangements
Tuition toward a Master of Education graduate degree in secondary education or a Master of Science in Educational Leadership (with principal licensure) or School Counseling and Preventative Mental Health (with school counselor licensure) is provided at no cost. Members receive a monthly stipend which assists them in paying rent, utilities and basic cost of living. May qualify for deferment and/or cancellation of undergraduate student loans.
Living Arrangements

Training
Two years of graduate coursework toward a M.Ed. in secondary education or a M.S. in teacher leadership. At local school placements, Magis teachers receive the support of a mentor teacher and work closely with the school administrator and the Magis Director for support and guidence throughout the length of the program. Magis teachers attend a summer spirituality course and participate in retreats throughout the year.
