In My Shoes

Goal of Program

The mission of In My Shoes is to provide a safe, welcoming community for pregnant women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Type of Placement

Full-time volunteers, called Residential Mission Staff, commit to living in the community alongside other volunteers and the women and babies they are serving at our maternity home. They are responsible for ensuring safety and enforcing rules within the house, assisting the mothers in setting and achieving their goals towards self-sufficiency and performing administrative duties.

Service Length

Long-term: 1 year, with an opportunity to renew for a 2nd year. Short-term: Semester or summer commitment minimum of 10-12 weeks

Program Size

We currently have one house, with a capacity for 5 Mission Staff and up to 13 mothers.

Requirements

Long-term: Age 20 or above with a college degree or equivalent life experience. Must have a passion for service, ability to live in community and willingness to abide by our Core Values.

Financial Arrangements

Room and board, $1,500 monthly stipend, health insurance reimbursement, counseling reimbursement, up to $5,000 Education Award at completion, access to community vehicles, and paid vacation days.

Living Arrangements

Mission Staff may share a bedroom with two other team members. They live in community with each other, pregnant women, new members and infants up to age 2 years.

Training

2 weeks of orientation followed by weekly supervision, ongoing training, regular mentorship meetings and various opportunities for professional and spiritual growth.

Application Deadline

Rolling applications, we onboard new Mission Staff every January, April, July and October.
