Goal of Program
The mission of In My Shoes is to provide a safe, welcoming community for pregnant women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
Type of Placement
Full-time volunteers called Residential Core Team Members commit to live in community alongside other volunteers and the women and babies they are serving. They are responsible for ensuring safety and enforcing rules within the house and assisting the mothers in setting and achieving their goals towards self-sufficiency, while also providing administrative duties.
Long-term: 1 year, with an opportunity to renew for a 2nd year. Short-term: Semester or summer commitment minimum of 10-12 weeks
We currently have one house, with a capacity for 6 Residential Core Team Members and up to 16-18 mothers.
Long-term: Age 21 or above with a college degree or equivalent life experience. Core Team Members must have a passion for service, ability to live in community and willingness to abide by our Core Values. They must demonstrate strong communication skills, flexibility and work well in a team environment. Must also have a valid driver's license. Short-term: Must be 18 or above with a high school degree and same requirements as above.
Long-term: Room and board, $500 monthly stipend, health insurance, access to community vehicles, and paid vacation days. Short-term: Room and board, monthly living stipend, access to community vehicles, and paid time off.
Long-term and short-term: Residential Core Team Members may share a bedroom with another team member, up to 2 people per room. They live in community with each other, pregnant women, new members and infants up to age 9 months.
Long-term and short-term: 1 week of orientation followed by weekly supervision, ongoing training, regular mentorship meetings and various opportunities for professional and spiritual growth.
Rolling applications, we on-board new Core Team Members every January, April, July and October.
