Goal of Program
SPIRITUS has two goals: to evangelize thousands of young Catholics and to form young adults as lifelong missionary disciples.
Type of Placement
SPIRITUS missionaries are young adults in their twenties who ignite the faith of Catholic youth through dynamic retreats and parish youth ministry internships. The missionaries inspire youth in grades 2-12 to live their faith and grow closer to God using praise music, dramas, challenge activities, witnesses, and small and large group discussions. There are two types of volunteer positions available: Youth Ministry Internship Missionaries and Retreat Missionaries. Retreat Missionaries focus their efforts on leading retreats and spiritual programming for youth in parishes and schools throughout Wisconsin. Youth Ministry Interns lead some retreats and gain vital youth ministry skills by learning to: implement a comprehensive youth ministry program; engage youth and adults to call them into the ministry; plan, organize, and execute programming; present spiritual programs and retreats in dynamic ways; successfully collaborate with a parish staff; facilitate meetings and small groups effectively; and disciple you
SPIRITUS works out of Mount Tabor Center, a youth retreat facility, and travel to parishes and schools throughout Wisconsin.
9 months (mid-August through mid-May)
SPIRITUS missionaries live and serve in teams of 6-10 people depending on the need. Missionaries share their gifts in the New Evangelization and contribute to the growth of the SPIRITUS mission.
SPIRITUS members: love God, feel led by the Holy Spirit and follow Jesus in their life; love the Catholic faith and follow the teachings of the Church; are single and between the ages of 20-29 with some college experience; feel called to inspire the faith of young Catholics; want to live in community with other Catholic young adults; want to grow in holiness and help others; are in good health and physically ready to evangelize and serve others; are emotionally ready to handle the challenges and rewards of nine months of service.
SPIRITUS members receive: God’s grace to evangelize His youth; one-on-one mentoring; a community of friends to live and work with; training in evangelization and youth ministry; housing; food; health insurance; $150 monthly allowance; spiritual direction; weekly formation classes; daily Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, Divine Mercy Chaplet, and Liturgy of the Hours; time off for holidays; $2,000 stipend upon completion of program; and an awesome year of serving that will change your life forever. This is a full time ministry so we do our best to take care of missionaries' physical and emotional needs.
SPIRITUS missionaries live in community and have their own bedroom. Men live with a priest while the women live in two other residencies. Missionaries come together for prayer, ministry, meals and fun!
SPIRITUS missionaries begin with a month of intensive training in foundations of faith, retreat ministry, and parish youth ministry skills. Weekly training, one-on-one mentoring, and formation classes continue throughout the year. Our training will help you create witness talks that inspire, engage young Catholics and call them into the mission of Jesus, present spiritual programs and retreats in dynamic ways, lead small groups that impact others, and build confidence in presenting the faith to others. You will learn valuable evangelization, youth ministry and leadership skills, deepen your faith, and receive help discerning future callings.
May 20. Early application is encouraged as positions may fill prior to deadline.
