Maggie's Place
Goal of Program: Maggie’s Place provides safe housing and a nurturing community for pregnant and parenting women experiencing homelessness, empowering them to thrive throughout their lifetime. Americorps members live in the homes alongside moms and teammates sharing meals, doing chores, celebrating accomplishments, and working through hard things together. Members take initiative in a variety of situations that range from a mom going into labor, to roommate conflicts, to showing hospitality to visitors and new community members. They create a safe, welcoming, home-like environment for the moms so moms can focus on achieving their goals.
Placement Type: Maggie’s Place AmeriCorps are radical change-makers who are committed to immerse their lives in intentional community with pregnant women experiencing homelessness. With evidence-based tools and a dedication to servant leadership, AmeriCorps are on the frontlines of the fight to put an end to ACES (Adverse Childhood Experiences), and break the relentless cycle of poverty. They must be emotionally mature and resilient, empathetic, nonjudgmental, and open to growing through uncomfortable situations. We train Corps members in conflict resolutions, de-escalation, and evidence-based care.
