Johnson Service Corps

Goal of Program

Johnson Service Corps is a 10.5 month program for young adults, ages 21 to 28, to live together in intentional community, explore justice work, and engage in spiritual and personal growth in Durham, NC.

Type of Placement

Corps Members work 32 hours weekly at the non-profit organization they are matched with. Types of service can include: Congregation-based ministry, Community organizing, Education, Food justice, Homelessness and Housing insecurity, LGBTQIA+ support, Racial reconciliation, Support for adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Public policy/advocacy, among other things. Service Length

Corps members arrive in mid August and serve until the end of June of the following year.

6 corps members each year.

Requirements

Ages 21- 28, good emotional, physical, and spiritual health, flexible, inquiring spirit, commitment to living simplely

Financial Arrangements

Corps members receive a personal stipend, housing, utilities, and a group food allowance. Corps members receive a $1000 completion bonus at the end of the year.

Living Arrangements

Corps members live in a furnished house provided by the program. Each fellow has their own bedroom, with a shared kitchen and common living spaces.

Training

8 hours per week, generally Fridays, Corps Members receive trainings on leadership, professional and spiritual development, including conflict resolution, racial justice, and vocational discernment.

Application Deadline

Applications are processed on a rolling basis. Deadline March 15th, 2025 (subject to extension)
