St. Francis of Assisi School is located in Lumberton, NM; next to the Jicarilla Apache Nation. The majority of our students are Native American and Hispanic. We are seeking volunteer teachers to serve for 10 months with an opportunity to extend their service. Our school’s mission is to teach and live the gospel message of Jesus Christ through family involvement in worship, evangelization, education, and service. St. Francis offers an opportunity for those who are mission-minded to work with an underserved population.
At St. Francis, we never want cost to be a reason a parent cannot send their child to our school. Even if parents fall on hard times and cannot pay their tuition, we will never let that keep us from allowing a student to continue his or her education. It is for this very reason that we rely on volunteer teachers.
Our volunteer teachers are role models – they live the gospel and demonstrate the spirit of service to our students. Our volunteers impact not only our students but the larger community as they get involved in diverse community-building activities.
As a volunteer, you will receive an incredible teaching experience that is both challenging and rewarding. You will get a chance to serve others and live simply in a supportive community. Our volunteers receive a monthly stipend, meals during the school week, and those who are eligible get the Segal AmeriCorps award.
