Episcopal Service Corps (ESC)

Goal of Program: Leadership
An ESC Year is not just another internship. Through placements like those listed above, our Corps members can apply their passion, talent, and creativity in meaningful placements dedicated to building a just society while also honing their professional skills to prepare for whatever is next.

Community Building
Young adults serving through ESC come from all over the world and all walks of life. What they have in common is their commitment to making a difference. For ESC, living together in intentional community means that Corps members commit to a year of growing, laughing, crying, playing, and supporting one another whether doing the dishes, in weekly house meetings, or on retreat.

Personal Growth
Every Corps member is surrounded by mentors and leaders dedicated to providing opportunities for Corps members to deepen their spirituality and learn to live into their values. In addition, joining ESC means that we take care of basic living expenses so our Corps can focus on transformation.

Placement Type: ESC Corps members work in a wide variety of settings including education, homelessness and affordable housing, health care, parish ministry, environmental + food justice, community organizing, LGBTQIA+, immigrant and refugee services, violence prevention and intervention, and agriculture. Each program offers different placements depending on the needs and opportunities in the local community. You can view our current programs here: https://episcopalservicecorps.org/programs/

Description: The Commonage in London, Ohio, has an immediate service opportunity for a long-season farmhand, June through October. The Commonage program is designed for young adults, aged 18-26. The program offers meaning and belonging through immersive experiences and education in restorative agriculture, spiritual practice, and communal living within a farm, camp, and retreat center setting. Commonage Members will experience life together tethered by prayer, shared meals, play, rest, reflection, conversation, service, and hard work. Participants live and work on land at the Procter Center, 1200 beautiful acres in Southern Ohio which include two farms, a 15-acre lake, a 70-acre woodland, and access to all camp amenities such as kayaks, canoes, hammocks, labyrinth, trails, sports court, fishing, and more. Members are part of the larger Procter community, which includes our Summer Camp staff and campers, volunteers, and patrons at the local farmer’s market. When you join The Commonage, you are joining a community, not just a job.
