St. Joseph Worker Program
Goal of Program: The women of the St. Joseph Worker Program are committed to personal and social transformation. The four pillars of the Program are: Justice- working within diverse communities doing direct service, meeting unmet needs; actively working toward systemic change; Leadership- providing opportunities and mentoring for young women to develop strong leadership skills in the work of social and spiritual transformation in the world; Spirituality- developing and deepening of each Worker's spirituality through retreats, prayer and exploration of spiritual practices with the support and resources of the Sisters; Community- developing intentional community with others in the Program with a focus on living simply and sustainably; building just relationships with others and the earth.
Placement Type: We work to match your passions with our placement site partners primarily serving vulnerable/economically disadvantaged, many opportunities with Spanish-speaking populations in: Social and Community Services: social work and services for individuals/families, homeless, incarcerated, immigrant and refugee populations; including women’s issues, food and supportive housing, at-risk youth/gang intervention, mental health support, dementia and elderly care; Education: K-8 teaching assistant, adult ESL education, early childhood, elementary education, afterschool programs; Medical and Health Services: public health and community outreach, medical/dental health clinic, nursing, palliative care; home/residential care; Public Relations and Advocacy: global justice and policy, community outreach, justice education, advocacy, community organizing, human trafficking and domestic violence services, immigration issues; Pastoral Care: high school campus ministry, mission integration, spirituality care
