Three months after the Rooted in Sacred Ground symposium, it is abundantly clear that ongoing check-ins are not only welcomed but deeply desired. The connections formed in October are continuing to grow into meaningful relationships and active resource-sharing among participants.
In these turbulent political times, participants are challenging and supporting one another through innovative, faith‑inspired practices—especially care for self—so they can remain present and grounded for the youth they serve. Through this community, participants are affirming their worth, strengthening their resilience, and staying centered in faith.
During a recent virtual check-in, participants showed remarkable openness and vulnerability from the outset. The atmosphere reflected a deep level of trust, with a shared understanding that this was a community where everyone could show up fully and be truly seen and heard.
Lance recently shared: “When I think about the symposium I think about the amazing community that was created by all of us showing up for the same reasons and being real and raw. I think it was beautiful how close everyone got in 3 days and how much love and spirituality there was. It showed me how we can all show up for each other even in rough circumstances and show compassion for each other”
Lisbeth shared at a recent virtual gathering “I think a huge part of Catholic Social Teaching is meeting and encountering the person right where they are at, and we were all able to receive one another in a special unique way and I know I was not able to sit and chat with all but those I got to share of myself with and receive thank you. Rhea Mandy big shout out to you both. I feel so refreshed by even just seeing your faces on these lil grids”
Kayla shared on why RISG has been so important: “Breathing room, easy to get swept up in the work of serving students that I forget to take care of myself, putting myself back together after feeling like losing myself in that work. Recently, and checking in on my why. Being with others who are bearing their cross, and to be inspired to find hope to get up, get back in, to try, to continue the work with a different lens. Not just a repetitive lens. Recall those moments to sustain me. We’re all rooted and praying for each other”
