Aid for Women
Goal of Program
Aid for Women helps thousands of women each year in the Chicago metropolitan area who find themselves facing unexpected pregnancies. Each woman is provided with the emotional, practical and spiritual support that she needs to choose life for her unborn baby and to provide a better future for her and her child.
Type of Placement
AT OUR PREGNANCY CARE CENTERS: Front Desk Greeters assist staff with client intake process. One-on-One Parenting Session Instructors help clients gain valuable knowledge about pregnancy, childbirth, parenting and life-skills. Moms-to-Be Support Group Volunteers assist staff with welcoming clients and facilitating our monthly Moms-to-Be Support Groups. AT OUR RESIDENTIAL PROGRAMS: Vitae Corps Member live and work in community at our residential programs to help provide our residents with safe and nurturing homes. Life Skills Volunteers present to residents on topics of “Body, Mind and Soul” — such as health, nutrition, exercise, baby care, parenting, job search techniques, resume writing, financial planning, music, art, spiritual growth and more! Community Dinner Volunteers donate and deliver a prepared meal for our residents and children.
Service Area
Chicago, Cicero, Des Plaines, Flossmoor, Waukegan, Wheeling, Rockford, Carbondale Illinois.
Service Length
Typically, Vitae Corps members volunteer for one year, but length of service may vary. Pregnancy center volunteers serve based on need and length of service varies.
Program Size
Residential homes have three to four live-in staff/volunteers at each home. Pregnancy centers have no limit on the number of volunteers.
Requirements
Volunteers must be dedicated to Aid for Women's pro-life mission and believe in the Church's teachings regarding sexual integrity and contraception. Vitae Corps Members are female, age 21 and over.
Financial Arrangements
Vitae Corps members receive free room and board, a $1000 monthly stipend, health insurance, and access to the community vehicle.
Living Arrangements
Vitae Corps members live in community with other volunteers and with the mothers and children in the program.
Training
Full orientation and on-the-job training is provided.
