Goal of Program

The Young Adult Volunteer (YAV) program is a faith-based year of service for young adults, ages 19-30, in 15 different sites around the world and the United States. YAVs accompany local agencies working to address the root causes of poverty and reconciliation while exploring the meaning an motivation of their faith in community with peers and mentors.

Type of Placement

One to two year placement opportunities in either direct service, education & awareness, or advocacy & justice positions. YAV placements address eco-justice/sustainability, accountability to international neighbors and the global community, income inequality, food justice, education, immigration reform, human trafficking, and more.

Service Area

Nationa sites: Albuquerque NM, Asheville NC, Chinook MT, New Orleans LA, New York NY, Tucson AZ, Washington DC. Int'l: Colombia, Korea, Peru, Philippines, Zambia, Scotland

Service Length

One year placements, renewable for a second year

Program Size

about 50-60 volunteers each year

Requirements

age 19-30, persons looking for faith-based year of service in the Christian path

Financial Arrangements

Volunteers are asked to fundraise $4,000 (national) or $5,000 (international). All YAvs must participate in fundraising, but there is assitance for those who cannot meet these amounts.

Living Arrangements

Vary by site - most naitonal placements live in a community house. International sites live in community houses or with local host families

Training

Orientation is required for all program participants, and continued training throught the YAV year. Transition Retreat is offered after completion of year.
