Goal of Program

To provide a peaceful, loving community for developmentally disabled adults where people's self worth can come to the surface and they can share in the joy of being valued for who they are, not what they can do.

Service Length

Long-term: One year. Short-term: Six weeks in summer.

Requirements

Long-term: Degree preferred. Experience working with developmentally disabled people helpful. Patience, acceptance of people with different abilities. Willingness to make a one-year commitment. Short-term: Summer volunteers must be 18 or over.

Financial Arrangements

Room and Board | Stipend | Medical Insurance | Transportation

Living Arrangements

Long-term: Volunteer lives in one of 15 three-bedroom homes in the community of Sharing Meadows. Volunteer shares home with two mildly to moderately mentally challenged adults of the same gender.

Training

Long-term: Initial four-day orientation, ongoing training and support throughout the year. Short-term: Orientation, ongoing support each week. New volunteers are assigned a mentor with several years of experience with our program.
