Why I want this volunteer experience:

I am seeking to become a volunteer because my faith and my education have formed in me a deep desire to live out Catholic Social Teaching in concrete, relational ways. As a senior at the University of Notre Dame majoring in accounting with a minor in Catholic Social Tradition, I have come to see service not as an extracurricular, but as a vocation rooted in the dignity of every person and the call to solidarity. Through three summers of Institute for Social Concerns fellowships in Chennai, India, Northern Ireland, and at Bethany Land Institute in Uganda, I have accompanied communities working on social concerns such as poverty, conflict, and sustainable agriculture, and these experiences have taught me how much transformation happens through presence, listening, and shared daily life. Notre Dame is also where I chose to remain Catholic and was confirmed my sophomore year after a year-long RCIA process, which helped me claim the Church’s social mission as my own and gave me language for why justice, peace, and care for creation are expressions of the Gospel. I hope to continue this journey after graduation by entering a faith-based volunteer program that will allow me to serve in intentional community, grow spiritually, and stand in solidarity with those at the margins. I want to use the practical skills from my accounting background in settings where they can support mission-driven organizations, but I am equally seeking the space to keep discerning who I am called to be.
