A Mercy Volunteer is needed to coordinate youth outreach programing for literacy. Reading is FUNdamental provides children with access to self-selected books, creates positive environments that motivate children to develop a life-long love of reading, and engages families in literacy practices in the home. Their research-based programs work to bridge the local literacy gap. Some of the programs include: Books for Keeps coordinates and conducts reading celebrations and other outreach activities; Storymobile plans and implements literacy-based activities at 40+ sites; and Everybody Wins coordinates a lunchtime literacy and mentoring program.
Mercy Volunteers live in community and commit to simple living, spiritual growth, and compassionate service. Mercy Volunteer Corps provides housing, transportation, a monthly stipend, health insurance, and more. Volunteers will have a professional mentor and will participate in multiple retreats throughout the year of service.
