SERVE IN SUNNY SACRAMENTO

Posted on:
Start: Aug 6, 2024 / End: Jul 19, 2025 / Location: Sacramento, CA

Extend a spirit of welcome and hospitality as you accompany unhoused people who are seeking survival services at Sacramento Loaves & Fishes. Loaves & Fishes offers over a dozen programs and services across a 4.5 acre campus and welcomes nearly 1,000 adults and children daily.

Volunteers are needed to serve at two of the programs – Maryhouse and Friendship Park. Maryhouse is a daytime drop-in hospitality center for unhoused women and families. The volunteer will offer individual resource support, crisis intervention, a hot breakfast, showers & survival supplies. Friendship Park is a safe, open park space that offers socialization and a place of respite. The volunteer will serve as the service center coordinator, visiting with guests, assessing needs, distributing meal tickets, and coordinating access to survival supplies.

These placements are filled through Mercy Volunteer Corps. MVC promotes social change through compassionate service, spiritual growth, and simple living in community. Volunteers receive housing, transportation, food & personal stipends, and medical insurance. Volunteers are also eligible to receive the AmeriCorps Education Award ($6895 award to cover past or future education expenses) and loan forbearance.
