About Saint John’s School of Theology and Seminary

Saint John’s School of Theology and Seminary is home to one of the most respected graduate theological programs in North America. Rooted in the Roman Catholic and Benedictine tradition, Saint John’s educates men and women for ordained and lay ministry in the Church and/or for doctoral studies.

The Former Volunteer Experience at Saint John’s School of Theology and Seminary

Former volunteers will find themselves immersed in the Benedictine tradition, that has anchored the people of God to the good news for over 1,500 years. The monastic community of Saint John’s Abbey grounds our community, encouraging us to embody the Benedictine Values in all that we do. Our core curriculum engages students in the breadth of the Christian tradition with courses in scripture, systematic theology, the history of Christianity, liturgy, moral theology, and monasticism.

The SOT/Sem offers 7 degree programs, 3 of which can be earned completely online. Guided by an elite faculty, our students enjoy small course sizes and a faculty to student ratio of 7:1. Because the SOT/Sem does not confer doctoral degrees, our master’s degree students are able to work closely with faculty while they discern life after their graduate program.

Former volunteers may be especially interested in the Master of Divinity (M.Div.) program. The Master of Divinity degree readies students for church leadership as ministers of service to their communities and to the people of God. Classroom learning, Clinical Pastoral Education, and field education work together to teach students to reflect theologically on their ministerial experience, while spiritual direction and communal prayer nurture student’s spiritual lives.

Full-Tuition Scholarship Opportunity Available

New for the upcoming 2022-2023 Academic Year is the Conversatio program. Through this program, Master of Divinity Students can receive a full-tuition scholarship, a living stipend, and free housing in our on-campus, graduate housing.
