For nearly 50 years, Catholic Volunteer Network has served as the premier resource for both long-established and newly-formed volunteer programs. We currently offer training opportunities to our member programs in the form of our National Conference, Formation Workshop, and Webinar Series.

Formation Workshop

The Formation Workshop is for those new to the world of full-time volunteering. Whether you are considering starting a new program or are a new staff member of an existing program, the Formation Workshop is an opportunity for you to become immersed in the logistics of full-time volunteer programs. Long-time program directors take participants through the process of starting a program and all the components of operating a successful program from orientation through the completion of the volunteer's service year.

Topics covered:

  • Recruiting, Screening, and Interviewing
  • Orientation and Retreat Planning
  • Managing Placement Sites
  • Fostering Intential Community Living
  • Budgeting, Financial Management, and Fundraising
  • Setting Up a Board of Directors and/or Advisory Board
  • Collaborating with Other Programs
  • International Placements
  • Re-Entry and Post-Service Support
Our 2017 Formation Workshop was held at the Cenacle Retreat and Conference Center in Chicago, IL: Click here to view the 2017 workshop brochure.

Webinar Series

Our webinar series provides member program staff with additional opportunities to come together and learn more about a topic of interest to faith-based volunteer programs. Through our webinar technology, members can participate in interactive training sessions without having to travel or pay registration fees.

Past webinar topics include succession planning, immigration requirements for international volunteers, effective campus recruitment strategies, volunteer spirituality, and more. Catholic Volunteer Network also conducts biannual "Catholic Volunteer Network 101" sessions to orient new staff members to the full range of membership benefits.

We invite you to join us for our spring fundraising webinar, hosted by Father Michael Martin, OFM Conv., and Director of the Duke University Catholic Center. In this one-hour session Father Michael will approach fundraising as an expansive, potentially life-giving activity stemming from a clear mission and purpose within your volunteer program. Father Michael will share encouragement and strategies for: communicating your vision; setting reachable fundraising goals; moving past doubt and hesitation in making the ask; and cultivating long-term relationships with those who support your mission.
