The St. Joseph Worker Volunteer (SJW) is responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Assisting Carondelet Village staff in delivering comprehensive, holistic services and opportunities to older adults of all abilities living at Carondelet Village. This includes coordinating and facilitating programs, classes or events, assisting in the development and management of health promotion and holistic wellness programs, assisting with connecting residents and volunteers with meaningful and diverse opportunities, all while gaining experience working in a housing and/or healthcare setting serving on an interprofessional team.
  • Offering multigenerational education and awareness about dementia in St. Paul. This could include coordinating dementia friendly initiatives, offering information and referrals to connect residents and community members with meaningful opportunities at Carondelet Village and local resources in the community.

REPORTING STRUCTURE

  • Your position directly reports to Carondelet Village’s Campus Administrator and Volunteer Director regarding your overall experience at this placement site. You might also work with the Life Enrichment Director, Wellness Director, Campus Pastor and other staff and residents on various programs and projects throughout the year.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A passion for working with older adults and their families.
  • Knowledge of, or strong desire to learn about: delivery systems of health care and or service providers for older adults, the value of informal services (family, faith communities, volunteers) for older adults, common physical, psycho-social, and spiritual issues related to healthy aging, and focusing on promoting strengths and interests.
  • Communication Skills: ability to listen to others, understands information, ask questions, and express ideas clearly when speaking or writing. Empathetic listening, researching and choosing service options, problem-solving, presenting ideas in a logical order, public speaking, working with groups and organizations, communicate clearly, and ability to put concerned individuals at ease.
  • Ability to: foster working relationships with community partners, multi-task in a fast-paced environment, efficiently and accurately use computer client-tracking and service database technology, maintain confidentiality, keep up-to-date about changes in caregiver services, assist with data collection and preparation of reports, participate in work groups and initiatives related to community engagement.
  • Identify problems and review information. Analyze options and apply solutions.
  • Communicate residents’ needs and strengths to supervisor, team members, and other care providers.
  • Experience in human relations, social services or social work a plus, as well as sensitivity to persons in crisis, good listening skills.
  • Ability to handle inquiries and relate well with referral sources, prospective volunteers, members and families, and to handle confidential information.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as with a team, and manage time in an efficient manner.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency and administrative duties.
  • Experience utilizing social media, google drive and other online applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language to communicate with all residents, staff and community members.

POTENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES

  • Connect residents and families to appropriate social supports, both at Carondelet Village and in the broader community.
  • Learn how to coordinate and co-facilitate Carondelet Village dementia friendly initiative programs and support groups.
  • Assist dementia friendly team coordinator with program management and administrative duties to provide education, raise awareness and reduce stigma about dementia on-site and in the community.
  • Develop and maintain familiarity with local organizations, including but not limited to other SJW sites.
  • Assist the interdisciplinary Carondelet Village Circle Team with activity planning, facilitation, and development.
  • Coordinate and lead the Operation Christmas Child fundraiser at Carondelet Village.
  • Other duties as assigned based on your strengths and interests.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    Ability to walk moderate distances. Willingness and flexibility to assist with duties not detailed in this limited description. This position is 36 hours per week.
