Women’s Housing Advocacy and Support

Posted on:
Start: Aug 8, 2023 / End: Jul 20, 2024 / Location: Baltimore, MD

Marian House is a women-centered program co-sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy and the School Sisters of Notre Dame. Marian House’s mission is similar to that of the founding mission of the Sisters of Mercy as it is a home for women and their children who are experiencing homelessness and/or imprisonment. They provide love and care to improve their situation. The primary campus offers transitional housing, case management, financial literacy support, job readiness programs, etc. A Mercy Volunteer is needed to serve as an Administrative Assistance/Front Office Manager fielding calls, welcoming visitors, providing organizational support, creating communications and social media materials, responding to the needs of residents, attending advocacy and fundraising events, and accompanying women to legal proceedings.

Mercy Volunteers promote social change through a year of compassionate service with people experiencing injustice. While serving in the spirit of mutuality, Mercy Volunteers cultivate Mercy and justice by embracing compassionate service, social justice, spiritual growth, and a simple lifestyle in community. Volunteers receive housing, transportation, monthly stipends, and health insurance, and can differ student loans. There are opportunities to participate in retreats, spiritual direction, and mentoring.
