The American Rescue Plan expanded the Child Tax Credit (CTC) to put more dollars into the pockets of parents and caregivers in the form of monthly payments from July to December 2021. Experts estimate the new CTC has the potential to cut child poverty in half. It provides the largest child tax credit ever, providing advanced payments of up to $300 per month per child up to age 6 and up to $250 per month per child ages 6 to 17. Millions of individuals who do not normally file income taxes are eligible for payments but may not be receiving the credit unless they have provided their information to the IRS.
