Goal of Program: 
To provide a peaceful, loving community for developmentally disabled adults where people's self worth can come to the surface and they can share in the joy of being valued for who they are, not what they can do.
Type of Placement: 
Long-term: Live-in house manager (steward), providing companionship and guidance to two mildly to moderately mentally challenged adults. Focus on what we are able to do and foster independence by encouraging them to become all they can be. Teach daily living and vocational skills. Volunteers live in one of 15 homes on site and share in the joy of living in community.

Service Length: 
Long-term: One year. Short-term: Six weeks in summer.
Requirements: 
Long-term: Degree preferred. Experience working with developmentally disabled people helpful. Patience, acceptance of people with different abilities. Willingness to make a one-year commitment. Short-term: Summer volunteers must be 18 or over.
Financial Arrangement: 
Long-term: Room and board, health insurance, $250 stipend per week, two days off each week on a rotating basis, bonus of $1,200 at the end of one year of completed service. [Bonus increases after each year of additional service.] Paid time off: 1 week at Easter, 1 week at Thanksgiving and 2 weeks at Christmas. Short-term: Room and board, small education stipend.
Living Arrangements: 
Long-term: Volunteer lives in one of 15 three-bedroom homes in the community of Sharing Meadows. Volunteer shares home with two mildly to moderately mentally challenged adults of the same gender.
Program Size: 
Long-term: Fifteen volunteers. Short-term: 25 volunteers.
Training: 
Long-term: Initial four-day orientation, ongoing training and support throughout the year. Short-term: Orientation, ongoing support each week. New volunteers are assigned a mentor with several years of experience with our program.

Steward Immediate Opening

The full-time live-in Steward position includes minimally supervising daily activities with developmentally disabled/other-abled adults. We offer a weekly stipend of $250.00, two days off per week on a rotating basis, room & board, free health insurance, work related transportation, 4 weeks of pre-scheduled vacation time around major holidays and a bonus of $1,200.00 for completing one year of service. Married couples may apply; either one or both individuals may become a paid volunteer. Share Foundation with The Handicapped, is an organization that exists to assist developmentally disabled/other-abled adults and their families in many different areas. The Share Foundation continues to develop the Sharing Meadows Community that is built on 185 acres of rural rolling hills in Indiana. Currently we have fifteen homes occupied each by two mild to moderate developmentally disabled/other-abled adults and a full-time live in Steward. Although the other-abled residents can provide for most of their self-care, minimal supervision and teaching is necessary to further foster their independence. Our focus is on encouraging them to be all that they can truly be physically, psychologically, and spiritually! Immediate positions are available.
