Serve in a Hospital, Mobile Health Clinic, Social Service, or Education Setting within a Health System–1 Year

Program Timing: As Soon As Possible / Location: Baltimore, MD; Richmond, VA

Envision yourself being “good help,” the translation of “bon secours” to those in need in a hospital, mobile health clinic, women’s resource center, or social services setting. With locations in Baltimore, MD and Richmond, VA, our volunteers live in radical solidarity with the poor, suffering, and those most in need. In other words, they live in the neighborhood where they serve and have the opportunity to get to know their neighbors on a deep level. They also live in a small, focused, supportive intentional community—our ministry is unique in that several staff members walk with the volunteers throughout the year in facilitating discussions around faith, justice, and simple living.

In recent years, volunteers interested in the healthcare field have ministered in hospital settings in the Emergency Department, Renal Department, Behavioral Health Unit, and Inpatient Unit. They have also ministered in a mobile health clinic called Care-A-Van as well as in Public Health and Diabetes Education roles. All of the placements are focused on relationship-building, with 80% of every role focusing on direct service with patients or clients.

BSVM provides housing, health insurance, transportation, a monthly stipend, and assistance with loan deferment. The program runs from late August 2019-July 2020. We are accepting applications on a rolling basis for our last spot in the 19-20 community. Begin your application today at: BonSecoursVolunteerMinistry.org/apply
