Are you a young professional who wants to use your career for good, but aren’t quite sure how? “Just Love” with a small but mighty volunteer program! GSV is a one-year full-time volunteer program that serves women, children, and adolescents affected by poverty, violence, and neglect.
Collier High School is a supportive alternative high school that offers a specialized educational opportunity for about 150 students. Students come to Collier having had difficulty adapting to public schools due to emotional or psychological difficulties such as depression, anxiety, or behavioral issues. They are guided to reach their full potential and thrive due to a high staff-to-student ratio, a vibrant academic program, and a comprehensive personal counseling program.
Volunteers at Collier are invited to use their unique gifts and talents to choose which way to best serve at this placement. Options include, but are not limited to teaching, tutoring, running sports/extracurricular groups, facilitating arts/theater/music events, youth counseling, curriculum development, clerical assistance, and ropes course instruction.
We need people who are compassionate, flexible and are up for a challenge. As a Good Shepherd Volunteer, you will live in community with other volunteers and grow in the practice of the 4 Tenets of GSV: social justice, community, spirituality, and simplicity. You will get real-world experience in social good career paths, which will allow you to discern your place in the world beyond a year of service.
