Deo Gratias Ministries is a 501c(3) organization founded by the Felician Sisters in 2018 to provide social services for those facing significant economic and social challenges. Through a ministry of presence, volunteers at Deo Gratias help find solutions to make the community a safe and happy place.

Type of Placement

Volunteers will work alongside Felician Sisters in a ministry of presence serving the local community through involvement and engagement at the Deo Gratias Café, food pantry, literacy program, community garden and art program and helping arrange social services.

Service Area: Deo Gratias Ministry Detroit is located at 15879 E Seven Mile, Detroit, Michigan 48205, United States.

Service Length: Volunteers will serve 10 months beginning mid-August. Service will complete in June 2023. Volunteers will have vacation and holiday time.

Program Size: Approximately 3-5 volunteers

Requirements: Volunteers must be between 18 – 39 years of age, able to live independently in a community setting participating in cleaning and meal preparation and able to volunteer 40 hours each week. They must live on-site, volunteer the entire 10-months (mid-August 2022 – June 2023), participate or be respectful of daily prayer and share volunteer experiences through a daily reflection. Potential volunteers must complete and submit the online Deo Gratias Application with references, be interviewed and complete a background check, medical exam and drug-screening, and complete a program for the protection of vulnerable people (Protecting God’s Children, Mandated Reporter Training, etc.).

Financial Arrangements Volunteers will be provided room and board, health insurance including vision and dental, transportation, and necessary living costs consistent with our commitment to a simple lifestyle. Each volunteer will also receive a $150 monthly stipend. The Felician Sisters of  North America will work directly with individual to provide necessary documentation required by lenders to defer student loans.

Living Arrangements: Volunteers will live in a 5-bedroom residence in Detroit, Michigan with both women and men in intentional community to foster growth for the individual and to help build the program.

Training: Volunteers will attend a 2-week orientation and training and two Volunteer in Mission retreats.
